We're Not Kumbaya People

IMG_8846.jpg

We’re resurrection people, we’re life people. United to Jesus, & thus united to one another – sons and daughters as brothers and sisters. Interconnected by our new DNA & the breath in our lungs that sings His praise. He didn’t create this big, wide, colorful family so we can sing Kumbaya behind fake smiles. He did it out of love; He did it out of redemption. And we get to be a part of that, His Kingdom happening in the here-and-now: transforming us, transforming the evil.

So let’s remember who we are, why we’re here. Because we’re not ministers of opinions or arguments on social media. We’re not ministers of a political ideology or what’s right and wrong. We’re ministers of reconciliation. And we weren’t redeemed to sling shame & give judgmental side-eyes. That’s not redemption, that’s damnation. We’re redeemed to love like He did and does – love without preconceived notions. No preface, if-then statement, or prenup. Love with reckless abandon to our preferences, comfort zones, and complacency- love that changes the world. This type of love is painful & it’s not usually church (little c) approved. But we’re not Kumbaya people, we’re resurrection people – & in order to experience resurrection, we have to first experience death. So let’s bury our hypocrisy & get out of the dirt. Because He loves to raise from the dead, & He’s asking us to take part. 🌼

“Our firm decision is to work from this focused center: One man died for everyone. That puts everyone in the same boat. He included everyone in his death so that everyone could also be included in his life, a resurrection life, a far better life than people ever lived on their own.

Because of this decision we don’t evaluate people by what they have or how they look. We looked at the Messiah that way once and got it all wrong, as you know. We certainly don’t look at him that way anymore. Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life emerges! Look at it! All this comes from the God who settled the relationship between us and him, and then called us to settle our relationships with each other.”

(2 Corinthians 5:14-18)
